PRIMROXOL

Water-based penetrating primer and bonding agent

Uses

PRIMROXOL is a primer and bonding agent for the preparation of absorbent substrates, such as cement screeds and porous concrete floors  prior to the application of smoothing and levelling compounds and flooring adhesives.

In the correct mixing ratio, PRIMROXOL works as a pore sealer – preventing pin holing in subsequently applied underlayments; it also prolongs their flow life and workability.
PRIMROXOL can be used on traces of hard, sound and water-tight adhesive residues on absorbent subfloors.

For interior use only.

Benefits

  • Solvent-free
  • Improves bond-strength of levelling compounds
  • Easy to use
  • Odourless: con be used in all locations
  • Especially for absorbent cement based substrates

Properties

Physical:

  • Primer Type: Solvent-free, plastified synthetic resins dispersion
  • Colour: milky white
  • Specific gravity: approx. 1.08 g/cm3
  • Dry film colour: translucent
  • Flashpoint: non-flammable
  • Working temperature: Preferably between +10°C and +25°C. Material and substrate temperature not below +10°C
  • Mixing ratio: 1:1 water-diluted for very porous cement-based substrates
  • Freeze/Thaw stable to –5°C
  • Drying time: 30 minute for very absorbent substrates; 60 minutes for adequately absorbent substrates.

Consumption:

Approx. 100-150 g/m² depending on the substrate and method of application

Safety:

IMPORTANT: before embarking on any work involving PRIMROXOL Penetrating Primer the separate Product Safety Data Sheet must be studied carefully by those carrying out the work. PREVENT skin and eye contact. Do not breathe vapours. Avoid spillages. Keep away from children and animals.

Shelf life:

Can be stored for 12 months when kept in the original, unopened container, protected from frost and stored at +5°C and +30°C. Frost-sensitive.

Application

PREPARATION
Preparation should be in accordance with building standards. Subfloors must be sound, of adequate tensile and compressive strength; free from laitance, cracks and structural defects; clean and free from dust, grease, curing compounds, sealers or any other contaminants that would inhibit proper bond. EPONAL 336 Moisture Vapour Barrier coating may be required where the residual water content is higher than 3%, especially common in new construction.
Adhesive residues that are hard, sound and water-tight should be mechanically cut-back to a minimum.
Soft and weak adhesive residues and smoothing underlayments should be completely removed.

APPLICATION

Used as a bonding agent on normally absorbent or impervious substrates:
Use the primer undiluted. Apply with a foam roller (100 g/m²/layer). Allow to dry for 60 minutes on normally absorbent or impervious surfaces prior to applying our self-levelling compounds.

Used as a penetrating primer on very absorbent cement-based substrates:
PRIMROXOL should be diluted in clean water in a 1:1 ratio. Use clean containers.
Apply the diluted primer evenly (avoid puddle formation). Several successive layers may be necessary. Allow to dry completely (approx. 30 minutes on absorbent cementitious substrates) prior to applying self-levelling compounds.
Smoothing and levelling underlayments should be applied within 6 to 12 hours maximum.

Cleaning
Clean with warm water whilst the primer is still wet.
