Uses
ARDATECH 2 is a one-component liquid waterproofing membrane designed to form after curing an elastic membrane for water-proofing applications.
Typical applications are:
- on intermediate floor slabs; slabs on compacted gravel/sand, equipped or not with water collect and sewage disposal systems
- on interior walls in wet areas: residential, public, commercial locations, hospitals, hotels, schools (kitchen, bathroom, showers, sanitary and technical blocks, laundries, etc.)
- on decks of indoor swimming pools, floors and walls in wet areas: thalassotherapy, balneotherapy
- balconies and loggias (surface not exceeding 20m²)
ARDATECH 2 is suitable for new works and renovation prior to laying hard flooring: ceramic tiles, screeds or slabs. It can also be used to protect water-sensitive interior floors and walls.
Suitable substrates:
Floors: concrete slab, cement screed, self-levelling compounds (P3 class), anhydrite screed, dry floor screeds, waterproof particleboards, plywood, existing ceramic tiles, semi-flexible tiles, old paint.
Walls: standard or waterproof gypsum plaster board, terracotta, cellular concrete, cement coatings, fibre cement, gypsum based coatings.
Benefits
- Ready-to-use system
- For new works and renovation
- Highly elastic
- Easy application by roller or float
Properties
Physical:
- Consistency: almond green paste
- Specific gravity: 1.4
- Working temperature: preferably between +5°C and +30°C.
- Waiting time between 2 coats: 4 to 6 hrs depending on temperature*
- Drying time before tiling: 15 to 24 hrs depending on thickness*

Approx. 1.5kg/m², i.e. 3 kg per 1 mm thickness
Safety:
IMPORTANT: before embarking on any work involving ARDATECH 2 the separate Product Safety Data Sheet must be studied carefully by those carrying out the work. PREVENT skin and eye contact. Do not breathe vapours.

Application
PREPARATION
Before starting the work, check the substrate in order to determine:
- required minimal thickness (depending on surface characteristics of the substrate)
- substrate treatment to be done (cleaning, scabbing, priming, filling cracks, expansion and construction joints).
Preparation should be in accordance with building standards. Subfloors must be sound, of adequate tensile and compressive strength; free from laitance, cracks and structural defects; clean and free from dust, grease, curing compounds, sealers or any other contaminants that would inhibit proper bond.
Residual moisture content of substrates should not exceed 3% (0.5% for anhydrite screeds). Relative humidity of air must not exceed 75% so as not to affect the drying time.
Very absorbent substrates (cellular concrete, gypsum wallboards, concrete or highly porous mortar) must be treated prior to application of waterproofing membrane. When used as a primer, apply 1:1 water-diluted (by volume) ARDATECH 2 or apply one or several coats of ARDAPRIM R.
ARDATECH 2 is a ready-mix product. Re-mix it thoroughly to obtain a homogeneous mixture.
Special jointing tape ARDATOILE EPDM 10 ML / 50 ML or ARDATOILE 120 / 500 or JOINT D’ANGLE should be used for reinforcement of internal and external corners, stabilized fissures, areas between walls and floors, etc. Apply ARDATOILE jointing tape into wet coat of ARDATECH 2 and roll over. Using a medium-pile lamb roller, apply 2 subsequent coats of 1.5 kg/m² of ARDATECH 2. The second coat is applied at right angles after complete curing of the first coat. Minimum thickness of dry film is approx. 1mm.
Tiles can be laid directly uisng ARDAFLEX T2, ARDAFLEX PLUS or ARDAPRET HP or ARDAPRET HPS onto waterproofing membrane 15 to 24 hours after application of the second coat.
BALCONIES AND LOGGIAS
Concrete slab or cement screed must have tensile strength superior to 25 MPa. Check if the inclined surface is in compliance with building standards. Remove all cleaning detergents or grease residues, rinse and allow to dry.
Hair crack can be bridged directly with ARDATECH 2. For wider cracks (0.3-1mm wide) it is necessary to open them, then treat with EPONAL 342 epoxy resin. Apply dry sand S409 onto wet coat of resin.
It is recommended to apply beforehand ARDAPREN NF or ARDATECH 2 primer (1:1 water-diluted) at a rate of 150 g/m² and allow to dry for 2 hours.
Apply first uniform layer of ARDATECH2 using a float or lamb roller at minimum thickness of 1mm, i.e. 1.5kg/m²/mm thickness. Apply jointing tape ARDATOILE EPDM 10 ML if necessary onto the first wet coat of ARDATECH 2. Allow to dry for 6 hours.
Apply the second coat of the same thickness as the previous one. Allow to dry for 24-48 hours (depending on temperature on the site) before applying tiling adhesive ARDAFLEX PLUS or ARDAFLEX HPS. Tile fixing can be carried out 15 hours after application, joint width should be at least 5 mm. Ready for grouting : 24 hours after tile fixing. Use ARDAJOINT FLEX for grouting.
