- Frost/thaw stable down to -5°C
* Drying time depends on temperature, relative humidity and substrate porosity.
Consumption:
Approx. 90-150 g/m²
Safety:
IMPORTANT: before embarking on any work involving ARDAPRIM R Penetrating Primer the separate Product Safety Data Sheet must be studied carefully by those carrying out the work.
PREVENT skin and eye contact. Do not breathe vapours. Avoid spillages. Keep away from children and animals.
Shelf life:
Up to 12 months when kept in the original, unopened container, protected from frost and stored at +5°C and +30°C.
PREPARATION
Preparation should be in accordance with building standards. Subfloors must be sound, of adequate tensile and compressive strength; free from laitance, cracks and structural defects; clean and free from dust, grease, curing compounds, sealers or any other contaminants that would inhibit proper bond. EPONAL 376 Moisture Vapour Barrier coating may be required where the residual water content is higher than 3%, especially common in new construction.
Adhesive residues that are hard, sound and water-tight should be mechanically cut-back to a minimum.
Soft and weak adhesive residues and smoothing underlayments should be completely removed.
APPLICATION
Absorbent substrates
Apply ARDAPRIM R primer with a foam or medium-pile roller at a rate of approx. 100 g/m² until complete regulation of substrate porosity. Several subsequent coats may be necessary. Allow to dry for 30 minutes prior to applying our self-levelling compounds.
Impervious substrates
Apply ARDAPRIM R primer with a foam or medium-pile roller at a rate of approx. 90-100 g/m². Allow to dry for 90 minutes prior to applying our self-levelling compounds.
Self-levelling compound must be applied within maximum 6-12 hours after primer application.
Ceramic tiles*
Should be checked and re-fixed if necessary. They must be free from residues of paint, wax and grease. Wash with good alkali powder detergent, rinse thoroughly several times if necessary and allow to dry. Apply ARDAPRIM R primer with a roller at a rate of approx. 100 g/m². Allow to dry for 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes prior to applying our self-levelling compounds.
Residues of old adhesives: neoprene, acrylic, etc.*
Must be tested to verify adhesion to the surface. Scrape away all loose and weakly bonded residues, only 0.5mm of adhesive residues should remain. Apply ARDAPRIM R primer with a roller at a rate of approx. 100 g/m². Allow to dry for 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes prior to applying our self-levelling compounds.
Anhydrite screeds
The screed should be sanded by the screed installer. Check moisture content of the screed before application.
Maximum moisture content must be:
≤ 0.5% for further installation of plastic, rubber floorcoverings, parquet and linoleum
≤ 1% for further installation of textile floorcoverings and ceramic tiles
Substrate should be clean, free of dust, paint, laitance, etc.
Apply ARDAPRIM R primer with a roller at a rate of approx. 100 g/m² per coat. Several subsequent coats may be necessary. Allow to dry for 2 hours prior to applying our self-levelling compounds.
Parquet or wood panels (waterproof particle boards, plywood, OSB3)
1. Existing parquet
Sufficient under-ventilation of wooden floors should be provided. Sand parquet flooring and fix any loose floorboards. Apply ARDAPRIM R primer with a roller at a rate of approx. 100-150 g/m². Moisture content of the wood must be between 7 and 13% before application of the self-levelling compound.
2. Wood panels
Must comply with current building regulations. Their treatment is identical to parquet flooring.
* for these substrates use fibre-reinforced self-levelling compounds.
Underfloor heating
Underfloor heating systems must comply with current building regulations. In all cases drying time must be respected. Turn off the heating 48 hours before starting the work. The heating should be brought up to its operating temperatures gradually, in stages over 48 hours after laying the floor covering.
Cleaning
Clean with warm water whilst the primer is still wet. Dried splashes cannot be removed.
